A regional drug enforcement squad seized 28 pounds of marijuana and arrested a Hartford man when he arrived to pick up a package filled with pot on Edgerton Street, according to a news release.
Fernando Gayle, 28, of 22 Harrison St., was charged with possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, possession with intent to sell, possession within 1,500 feet of a school and possession with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school. Gayle was being held Tuesday on bail of $90,000 pending an appearance in Manchester Superior Court on Dec. 21.
Officers with the East Central Narcotics Task Force received information that a package filled with marijuana was to be delivered to 37 Edgerton St. on Friday, the release said. Officers set up surveillance and detained Gayle when he accepted the package, the release said.
Inside the Lexus that Gayle arrived in, police found another package stuffed with 14 pounds of marijuana, for a total seizure of 28 pounds, the release said.
The East Central Narcotics Task Force investigates illegal drug sales and use in Manchester, South Windsor, Vernon and Glastonbury.
